The conference, which will be held on 12-14 September this year in Lodz, is a forum for constructive exchange of knowledge and experience between the scientific and social environment.
Prof. Antoni Remesar Betloch (ORCID 0000-0002-1145-6279) is a researcher affiliated with the University of Barcelona. He was the dean of the Faculty of Fine Arts (2006 – 2016) and the Public Space and Urban Revitalisation doctoral studies (1999 – 2017). Currently, he is the head of the Centre for Urban Research and master's studies in the field of Urban Design. He is also the editor-in-chief of the "On the W@terfront" magazine devoted to urban studies and the author of 71 publications. Since 1998, he has been conducting participation and redevelopment processes in the post-industrial districts of Barcelona: Baró de Viver and Bon Pastor. Versatility and variety of interests, as well as the pro-social attitude of the urban activist are worth emphasising. Participation in the Lodz conference will be a symbolic summary of Remesar's scientific career. He is retiring professionally this year but he will continue his social and scientific activity.
Prof. Remesar will deliver his lecture on the first day of the conference, on 12 September at 2 p.m., in the prof. Ija Lazari-Pawłowska Assembly Hall in the Institute of Philosophy of the University of Lodz, Lindleya 3/5. The lecture subject – which is important especially now, when we are facing the challenges related to the sustainable development that influences the way of "building a city" – will concern experience of the diversity and polarisation of a city, manifesting itself in many aspects, not only historical, but above all axiological.
During the conference, the scientist will also conduct two workshops (approx. 4 hours in total) on the analysis of post-industrial urban spaces and the implementation of art in these spaces, based on the experience from the master's and doctoral programmes at the University of Barcelona. A poster session introducing the workshops, which presents issues related to Lodz post-industrial spaces, will be prepared and conducted by four students and doctoral students of the University of Lodz. Digital versions of the posters will be posted on the conference website, which will enable the online participants of the conference to ask questions.

The lecture by prof. Remesar will be open, and the workshops will be open to the conference participants; however, prior registration is required. A video recording of both events will be posted on the website of AEC so that they are available to all the Internet users.
